Authorities in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, recovered the body of a missing rideshare driver on Sunday, December 6, around 4:15 p.m. She had been missing since December 3.

Eleanor Camacho, 58, was found dead in her vehicle in the area of Lumber and Turner Streets in Allentown. She was last seen that previous Thursday around 5 p.m. when she left the parking lot of her apartment in the 1100 block of South Cedar Crest Boulevard in Salisbury Township.

At the time she went missing, she was working her part-time rideshare job. Two hours after she was last seen, her son, Daniel Camacho, said her cell phone was detected in the 700 block of Hamilton Street in Allentown.

Camacho, a mother of four with a grandchild on the way, had only been driving for Uber and Lyft for a few months. She was originally from Philadelphia and moved to the Lehigh Valley area several years ago.

Authorities did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding Camacho’s death, but the Lehigh County District attorney’s office, coroner’s office, Allentown police, and Salisbury Township police are involved in the investigation. It’s believed she was leaving to pick up a passenger for either Uber or Lyft at the time she went missing.

The family and police are awaiting information from Uber and Lyft. They are hoping the records from the companies can shed light on who got into Camacho’s car on that Thursday afternoon.

While it’s unclear what happened to Camacho, this is not the first time something like this has happened. Both rideshare drivers and passengers have faced similar circumstances, which is why it’s important to know what to do in the event you or someone you know has been injured in a rideshare incident.
