Sandra Jaqueline Denton, known by the stage name Pepa from the ‘90s hip hop act Salt-N-Pepa, has filed a lawsuit against Uber for a Los Angeles car accident in 2018.

According to Denton, the crash has affected her ability to perform and make money. She is seeking compensation from the rideshare company, along with the Uber driver and the three other drivers involved in the accident.

The Jamaican-American rapper claims the chain-reaction car crash left her with lasting injuries, pain, and the need for medical attention. While in a friend’s car on Los Angeles’s 101 freeway, they were hit from behind by an Uber driver. According to the police report, it’s possible the Uber driver was unable to stop the collision from happening because they were tailgating. That crash set off a chain reaction involving three other vehicles on the freeway.

At the time of the accident, Denton reported neck and knee pain, for which she sought medical attention. According to her lawsuit, she still suffers intense pain that interferes with her ability to perform and travel. She claims to often feel sick before and after performances—something she never experienced prior to the crash.

Her lawsuit is built on the claim that the Uber driver and other drivers operated their vehicles negligently and carelessly, resulting in her injuries and losses. In addition to compensation for medical bills and pain and suffering, Denton is also seeking compensation for lost wages.

Being involved in an Uber accident doesn’t always mean being the Uber driver’s passenger. If you were struck by a negligent Uber driver and suffered injuries and monetary losses, you have the right to pursue a claim against the driver. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to file a claim against the rideshare company as well.

Filing a rideshare accident claim can seem overwhelming, especially while you’re trying to focus on recovery. If you’re currently out of work because of your injuries and aren’t getting paid, your financial future could be in jeopardy. Taking legal action against a negligent driver gives you the opportunity to hold them accountable for their action and ensure you receive the compensation you need to recover as fully as possible.
